Due to the long history of rockslides and land slippage, Kiewit constructed tunnels to bypass the Devil's Slide portion of Route 1 so motorists can avoid these major slide areas. Using the New Austrian Tunneling Method, which relies on inherent rock strength for support, crews constructed the tunnels through granitic, sandstone and shale formations. The tunnels are approximately 4,100 feet long, 30 feet wide, 22 feet high and 60 feet apart.
On January 1, 2011, Kiewit was awarded a contract to provide management services to mine and deliver lignite from the San Miguel Mine. Approximately 3.3 million tons of lignite coal is delivered to the adjacent 400-MW San Miguel Electric Cooperative, Inc. power plant, which is the owner of the mine. San Miguel Electric Cooperative, Inc. furnishes power and energy to Brazos Electric Cooperative, Inc. and the South Texas Electric Cooperative, Inc.

The Hilton Hotel Expansion and Renovation project included the new construction of a six-story, 150 guest room tower located above the existing parking structure. This expansion accommodates large groups and special events, and provides additional availability for leisure and business guests.
The $9.5 million rehabilitation project included the complete removal and rehabilitation of seven horizontal, axial flow pumps. For the Pump Stations S7 and S8 project, Kiewit also had to re-machine the propellers and replace bearings, reconfigure the pumps basins, and a telemetry package.
In May 2000, Kiewit Pacific Co. was selected to construct this $98 million, 12 MGD water treatment plant. The project consists of 31 structures, including an administration building, three oxidation ditches, four secondary clarifiers, two waste-activated sludge tanks, a solids handling basin, a chlorine contact basin, filter building, chemical feed building and influent pump station.
The Bellevue Medical Center is a 265,000-square-foot facility designed and built to offer comprehensive patient services.
